How To Choose Outdoor Furniture

Many people enjoy spending time in their backyards, or on their outdoor patios, porches or decks. To do so comfortably, they will need to have furniture that can be left outdoors, and can withstand the elements. There are many different types of outdoor furniture, offering many choices of materials, styles and designs. Outdoor furniture can be made of aluminum, wrought iron, various types of wood, wicker, and plastic. Outdoor furniture can be purchased from many different places, ranging from home improvement warehouses to patio furniture stores to online retailers.

Types of Outdoor Furniture

Outdoor furniture comes in many different types, styles, designs, and materials. Types of outdoor furniture include chaise lounges, picnic tables, benches, patio chairs, porch swings, outdoor gliders, pool furniture, umbrellas, and many others. Many people enjoy having backyard and patio barbecues. For this purpose you can find outdoor picnic and dining tables, benches, and chairs. Many outdoor tables come with umbrellas in the center, which can be raised and lowered as needed. Chaise lounges are a popular type of outdoor furniture. Chaise lounges can come in wooden styles such as teak, aluminum, wicker or plastic, and often come with comfortable cushions that are suitable for outdoor use. A particular popular type of outdoor chair is the Adirondack, an outdoor armchair having an angled back and seat made of wide, usually wooden slats.

Where to Find Outdoor Furniture

If you are looking for outdoor furniture, there are many options available to you. Many home improvement warehouse stores carry at least some inventory of outdoor furniture, often at very reasonable prices. For a greater selection, you can visit stores that specialize in selling outdoor furniture. Some stores deal exclusively in patio-style furniture, such as patio dining sets, picnic tables, benches, garden chairs and wooden or wicker lounge chairs. You can also find stores that specialize in outdoor furniture designed primarily for use around pool decks, such as chaise lounges, plastic chairs and tables, and umbrellas. The Internet can be an excellent resource for finding stores that sell outdoor furniture in your area. Many outdoor furniture stores have websites where you can see their product lines and get information about the stores and their products. You may also be able to find the outdoor furniture you need by shopping online. There are many online retailers of outdoor furniture.

What to Look For in Outdoor Furniture

When choosing outdoor furniture, there are various things you will want to keep in mind as you make your selections. You may want to start out by surfing the Internet, checking decorating magazines and visit local shops. Make notes about materials, colors and styles you like. Check warranties, care instructions and necessary maintenance of materials. Be sure the furniture you choose is durable and that parts will be available when you need them. Choose fabrics treated with water and stain repellents or treat them yourself before using. Plan to clean and retreat fabrics annually. Keep budget in mind, but shop for value over price. Flimsy materials, complicated assemblies and delivery hassles can be costly in the long run. Always try out the furniture before you buy it, by sitting on benches, lying down on the chaise lounge and pulling chairs up to their table to make sure you'll be comfortable in them. --Choosing the right outdoor furniture will allow you and your family to enjoy being outdoors all summer long.
